NL Scholarship Benefits

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the VU Fellowship Programme 2027, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a non-EU/EEA passport
  • Not be eligible for the lower Dutch statutory tuition fee
  • Must not possess Dutch nationality
  • Demonstrate outstanding academic performance
  • Have a GPA equivalent to a Dutch grade of 8.0 or higher
  • Receive conditional or unconditional admission to the first year of a full-time English-taught master’s program beginning in September 2027
  • Applicants starting their studies in February are not eligible
  • The admission qualification must not have been obtained in the Netherlands
  • Must not already hold a degree from a Dutch higher education institution
  • Must not currently be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in the Netherlands
  • Must not be required to complete a preparatory or pre-master’s program before starting the master’s degree
  • Applicants may apply for the VU Fellowship Programme for only one master’s program

  • GPA proof or official academic transcript
  • Grading scale explanation
  • Master’s program application
  • Conditional or unconditional admission confirmation
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate (if available)

Note: The GPA proof, transcript, grading scale explanation, and application form must be combined into one PDF file and uploaded through the Scholarship section of the VU personal dashboard.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

How to Apply for the VU Fellowship Programme?

Follow these steps to submit your application:

  1. Choose an eligible full-time English-taught master’s program at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
  2. Register for your chosen program through Studielink.
  3. Complete your master’s application via your personal VU dashboard.
  4. Submit your master’s application before 1 December 2026 to allow enough time for admission processing.
  5. Wait until you receive conditional or unconditional admission.
  6. Open the VU Fellowship Programme application in your VU dashboard.
  7. Complete the official VUFP-NL Scholarship application form.
  8. Combine the required documents into a single PDF file.
  9. Upload the PDF file to the Scholarship section of your VU dashboard.
  10. Submit your scholarship application before 1 February 2027 at 23:59 CET.
  11. Wait for the scholarship results, expected in mid-March 2027.
  12. If selected, accept or decline the scholarship offer before the specified deadline.
